Phuntsholingt is a town bordering India in Bhutan. You drive through the forests of Kurseong district in India, along the foothills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, crossing the Teesta River, then driving parallel to the looming foothills of southern Bhutan with endless miles of tea estates, bright green fields filled with even rows of tea bushes, young women with bright scarves on their heads filling bamboo baskets with the tiny leaves, and finally on to Phuntsholling. The town is situated atop a hill overlooking the plains of Bengal at an altitude of about 1,000 ft.
