A top-echelon hotel. Busy and big, but warm and friendly. It recently opened a new wing – the 75-room ITC One, aimed at the high-end of the corporate market. A massage chair in the rooms is an undisputed winning feature. F&B is something of an art at the hotel – at least two restaurants are veritable brands. The coffee shop Pavilion has recently moved to the roof top and getting rave reveiws. Sheraton standards, of course, make it a undisputed choice for many.

The hotel has brought in a new class of hoteliering to the city. Located in South Delhi’s residential area of Saket, it is a first class five-star hotel – compact, high on design but a notch lower in tariff than the top echelon hotels of the city. You’d pick this hotel if you want assured quality and modern amenities at a good price.

The French chain in New Delhi is marked by the tallest atrium, a very good location and a way of keeping busy with events and celebrations. The black and glass façade is rather stunning and from the rooftop you get a spread-out view of Lutyen’s Delhi charming at day or night. The hotel is presently undergoing a total refurbishment programme. New state-of-the-art rooms have come up. Their F&B division and the night club is also being upgraded.

The Qutab

While the-1970s type German architecture remains intact, the new look Qutab boasts sleek, contemporary interior. As part of the renovation project, the present 60 rooms have been refurbished, the multi-cuisine restaurant, Terrazzo, has been upgraded, and the banqueting facilities enhanced to accommodate upto 400-500 persons, by combining the ballroom and the poolside. The famous bowling alley though has been shut down. However, the main focus of the Qutab is the renewed block of service apartments. There will be 30 service apartments in all, out of which six are completed and work in another six will finish shortly. With a minimum length of stay being three months, the apartments are targeted towards Indians relocating to India or foreigners working in Delhi for a long assignment.

The Metropolitan Hotel Nikko

It is a Japanese hotel all right – high on design, efficiency and hygiene, with the most authentic Japanese restaurant in town. Located almost in the city centre, it has that unmistakable touch of class – sparseness and cosiness combined with light. And the staff is extremely helpful.

The closest branded hotel to the new corporate hub of Gurgaon, it is a favourite with the multinationals who have offices here. Its proximity to the airport too makes it very convenient if you are transiting Delhi. The hotel also appears to have a way with events and being in the news with its do’s.

This is a hotel that has been around since 1945. A club, a place for events, art shows, talks, seminars... the India Habitat Centre must also be recommended for its rooms – even though open only to members and their guests. They are plush, very well appointed in bright yellows and ochre – definitely the top variety, with all the amenities that go with the nomenclature.

The Manor

A true blue ‘small luxury hotel’. Only 18 rooms, one restaurant, but Japanese designer Shirley Fujikawa’s fine taste suggests itself everywhere – from Italian Murano lamps in the rooms, the wooden desks, the presentation of toiletries, the shower cubicles or the Japanese bathtubs.

A white Georgian building located in the part of Delhi that used to be the city’s hub in the days when ballroom dancing was more popular than pubbing, The Oberoi Maidens is old, from another era. Stained glass in the lobby, thick columns, an arched ceiling... The people who come here are old patrons too, or Indophiles nostalgic about the Raj. The rooms carry the character – they are large with Venetian blinds and high ceilings.
